I traveled along that road as a passenger in a car about 4 years ago.
I noted the cycle lane on ONE side of the road, and I mused "Well, that's fucking useful".

The cycle lane is, as usual, badly planned and thought out. It is non existent, then, if you bare heading into the park, you have to cross to the other side of the road, through oncoming traffic, then ride along it, stopping at road junctions and driveways constantly, whilst avoiding pedestrians walking in it, before it disappears again, and you are expected to cross over the road again to continue on your way.
I never use it as I can crack along at 25mph on my road bike along there, getting beeped at by the odd impatient dick in their car as they make a meal of overtaking, before I inevitably pass them again in the park as they stick to the 20mph speed limit in there.

As many I know the road well, it leads down to Roehampton Gate entrance to Richmond Park. The road is quite narrow as they have taken a large chunk as a cycle lane and footpath. It is difficult to overtake cyclists in the road especially in a 4x4 when traffic is coming in the opposite direction.
Nevertheless cyclists still have the right to cycle in the road, even if there is a designated cycle lane and the idiot completely overreacted. Has since apologised but it may be futile. Some are already calling for everyone to boycott his Cafes.
